Wow, this is scary… someone out there likes my rants! You asked for it, here are the top 10 things that piss me off.

Doctors who look at me funny when I ask to get tested for HIV. I’ve had several doctors poke and prod asking why I wanted tested for HIV. It disgusts me. What business is it of theirs? Hey! at least I’m getting tested. Don’t ask questions, just order the f-ing test.

Prescription drug prices in the U.S. C’mon… how can I go to Canada or Mexico and pay a fraction of the price for prescription drugs that I do in the U.S.? Those greedy bastard drug companies are in collusion with the physicians and insurance companies to screw us all. I take a long acting form of propranolol. Before it became available in generic my insurance plan would only pay for Inderal LA which is more expensive than InnoPran XL (same thing, different brand, lasts longer).

American automobiles. In the 2 years that I’ve owned by Ford Escape I figure that Ford Motor Company has spent about $7,500+ in warranty repairs! Can’t any American owned car manufacturer make a decent vehicle?

While we’re on the subject of vehicles… if you have a big expensive car, hit the gas! I hate nothing more than seeing people with $50K cars who are afraid to us the power in them. Fine, go the speed limit, just get your ass off the line faster.

If you purchase a vehicle, use it! No one should be afraid of getting a vehicle wet. Don’t buy a sports car (esp. with an automatic transmission) and don’t drive it! ARGHHH.

Windows Vista. It’s a piece of steaming donkey doo. They put lipstick on a pig and fattened it… a lot. At least if you’re going to require gigabytes of RAM and at least 512MB of video RAM, limit the OS release to ONLY 64-bit processors.

People who hate iTunes. Do you know how many songs I’ve purchased for $0.99 each? I don’t have to buy an entire album anymore! And guess what?!?!? The iTunes Music Store has millions of out-of-print recordings of esoteric songs that I just love. Also, on the FairPlay DRM that Apple uses… I bought the song, so only I can listen to it. Makes sense to me. Even then you can burn it!

People who don’t drive the speed limit. In heavy rain, sleet, and/or snow you may want to drive below the speed limit, but in normal driving conditions at least GO THE SPEED LIMIT!

Spammers. Need I say more?

People who don’t use condoms. Please people, especially you straight people out there, protect yourselves!

P.S. New podcast once I get over this nasty cold.

The topic of condom use in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS should not be controversial. If you want to help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, then focus on prevention. As Pope Benedict XVI is visiting the United States, the topic of his views on birth control has come up a few times lately on Sirius Satellite Radio’s OutQ channel along with this article in the New York Times.

Pope Benedict is following outdated Roman Catholic dogma that places a ban on birth control. It’s great that he sticks to his beliefs and core values, but sometimes the rules need eased for the greater good. Allowing the doctrine of condom use to help prevent HIV/AIDS has the potential to save literally millions of lives in the world, especially in places where education is not prevalent and where the Roman Catholic church has the presence and means to help. I’m talking about places like Haiti and most of Africa.

Isn’t Christianity supposed to be about loving your neighbors as yourself and being kind and benevolent? When then are we continuing to hurt people by not educating them about the importance of condom use and the spread of HIV/AIDS among other sexually transmitted diseases? As the leader of the largest church in the world it is time for the Pope to get into the 21st century and realize that helping and caring can include birth control.

Before you think that “organ” refers to “penis”, GROW UP! In a previous post I talked about how I cannot donate blood. Because of the U.S. FDA’s ruling about MSM (men who have sex with men) blood donation saying that it’s against someone’s policies to let men who’ve had sex with another man who’s had sex with another man since 1977. Despite this fact, I can, in fact, donate my organs!?!?!? I guess dead fags are better than lives ones to the U.S. Government.

When I moved to Pennsylvania and had my PA Driver’s License reinstated (I lived here before), I decided to select the organ donor check mark, not thinking that they might deny gay men. This worried me for a while, but HEY!, how do they know you’re gay when you’re dead. I don’t yet have a rainbow flag tattoo, so why not? The PA Department of Health AND the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services both say that donation suitability is determined after death.

What the fuck? I can donate by dead heart, lungs, liver, corneas, etc., but not my live blood. Does anyone else see a problem with this? I’ll comment more on this later.

The American Red Cross says that I cannot give blood. I am not HIV positive. I don’t have any odd communicable diseases. I weigh more than 110 pounds and am less than 95 years old. Why can’t I do my duty and give blood? The answer:

…are [you] a male who has had sexual contact with another male, even once, since 1977[?]

Every time I hear someone bitching about low blood donation rates and how wonderful it is to experience the joy of giving blood, I want to vomit. It is disgusting. In the US I can’t get married, I can’t give blood, and I can be fired for being gay. What a fucking wonderful place. So tell me, why do so many illegal aliens come here? I digress.

I should be able to donate blood. It does save lives. It has saved the lives of many of my family members. I’m safe when I do have sex and am regularly tested for HIV. The American Red Cross is my target because of the prevalence of their marketing towards potential blood donors. Fuck them. If they want to be tolerant of the GLBT/LGBT community they should say in their ads that gay men are not able to give blood.

If it wasn’t for their poor testing practices and lack of follow-up counseling maybe this rule could be lifted. Honestly, when I was first of age to give blood (and still a virgin), I gave blood and got a letter in the mail saying that I had a false-positive result for one of the Hepatitis viruses. The letter said that if I did not feel well or was tired that I should see a doctor. Ain’t that great? Shouldn’t someone who has a false-positive test result get more personal counseling than a letter. It turned out that I did not have Hepatitis and never have, but did they enrage me.

I do admit that it was the United States Food and Drug Administration that banned men who’ve had sex with men from giving blood. Actually, we are “deferred” from giving blood. In all their double talk it comes down to this, if you answer the Red Cross blood donation questionnaire honestly you WILL be turned away as a blood donor.

The point of this post: to teach people that gay men who’ve ever had sex can’t give blood. I’ve known many straight people who don’t know about it. When we had blood drives at a former employer people would ask why I couldn’t give blood. Here’s the answer. Oh, I also can’t donate because of a former faulty blood screening test result.
