Well folks, it’s coming down to the wire. There is one more presidential debate tonight and I thought I’d share with you just one reason why I don’t like Barack Obama. I will preface this by saying that I am a lifelong Democrat and will probably vote for him so that more of our rights are not taken away (insert eye roll).
Senator Barack Obama is too busy. He has given exactly TWO interviews to the gay media in the last TWO years. His last one was the only interview since becoming at least the presumptive presidential nominee. The Philadelphia Gay News had from most accounts just 10 minutes to speak with the Senator via a contraption called the telephone. Now, I just heard that there are these things called cellular telephones that allow one to beam their voice long distances so that you can talk while riding on a bus or while taking a dump. Of course we cannot forget his much coerced interview with The Advocate which can best be described as lame.
Using standard mathematical equations, the LGBT community is somewhat large. By all estimates we make up somewhere between 7.2 and 30 million people. Of course these numbers assume a US population of about 300 million and an average of newer studies putting us at around 2.4% or up to the Kinsey number of 10% of the population. No one knows the number of gay people in the US. Period. End of story.
Barack Obama has given us exactly 10 minutes of his time since Hillary Clinton suspended her candidacy. Why does he feel that he can only give us 10 minutes? Are we not more important than that? Are we expected to vote for him just because most of us are Democrats? Now, we’re only talking about giving a media interview, but what about getting the word out to the LGBT community? Has he done a good job at that (minus Joe Biden)?
