Now, as you’ll see below this comment there is a “ShareThis! (brand name and on this site)” or “link sharing” box that allows you to send a link to the post to MySpace, Facebook, etc. It’s a great way of sharing blog posts, news stories, etc. with friends and family. Now, I’m all for free speech, no censorship on the internet, etc. BUT when I saw a new media/social media sharing box on the printable version of my grandmother’s obituary, I fell out of my seat laughing. Well, at first I was pissed but then saw the irony of it. So, I did it. You should be able to see it on my facebook profile (search for Jason Cable in Pittsburgh).
To make a long story short… get the link exchange box off of the obituaries, especially the printed versions. It’s rude, it’s insensitive, and just about the silliest thing a web designer/programmer could do. Let the dead rest… and NOT in facebook or myspace, etc.
The offending obit. (PDF)
