I had a great time at Pittsburgh’s Pride celebration this weekend. Everyone needs to go to at least one gay pride festival at least once in their lives. Personally, everyone should make their trip to Mecca to New York City Pride at least once. While Pittsburgh’s Pride isn’t anywhere near as big, it was a good time. Pictures here and audio recap here.
A big thanks to Sirius OutQ’s Frank DeCaro! He’s as genuine and funny in real life as he is on the radio. I got to meet Frank, wearing his new silver shoes, and C.R. who gets hung up on on the radio show all the time. Saturday night started with a few rain drops followed by a crazy downpour. Luckily, I snuck into Images and had several drinks. So, after 10pm sometime Frank DeCaro got on stage and started by singing his signature, “Pineapple Princess,” a song from the album Hawaiiannette by Annette Funicello.
Sunday was the parade, albeit only 25 minutes, it was pretty good. Dozens of gay and gay friendly organizations were represented. I had no idea there were so may in Pittsburgh. I am truly sorry I missed it last year and will hopefully play a more active role in the pride celebration in the future.
