Laser Eye Surgery and Muffins

June 12th, 2008 by jason

I have to give props to a fellow blogger, a bi gal, that mentioned this site.  Muffin Mumblings has a really good description of the laser eye surgery.  I had a different procedure, not the PRK that she mentions.  I had “CustomVue LASIK” performed by the LASIK Vision Institute here in Pittsburgh a year and a half ago.  Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is an older procedure and is recommended over LASIK for some patients.  The custom types of LASIK which go by many names actually correct perfections in the eye versus just regular LASIK or PRK which just correct for your prescription.

It was one of the best things I did and do recommend it for anyone who is able to have the surgery.  The whole procedure took about 10-15 minutes.  The next day I drove back for my follow up exam and had achieved 20/20 vision… in 24 hours.  The following week my vision was at 20/15.  I experienced the usual eye dryness for a month or so and halos around lights at night for a few months, getting gradually better over the course of about a year.  Again, for an in depth look, check out Muffin Mumblings.
