Okay, how do I put this? Please, some Independent stand up and run for President. The Democratic National Committee and national news media have made Barack Obama the presumptive presidential nominee. Let’s face some facts:
- Hillary Clinton has (arguably) won the popular vote. (It’s damn near 50/50)
- The Senators have only 120 delegates separating them this minute out of about 2,100. Is that difference statistically significant considering 34 million votes cast?
- Obama has crossed the line ONLY because of the uncommitted/super delegates. That’s a smoke-filled back-room decision.
- The media ended the race months ago.
- The media ended the race before all of the votes were cast.
- The DNC messed up in Florida and Michigan. I want to see Howard Dean, about 1/2 of the Rules Committee, and entire senior management of the party to resign.
Yes, I’m outraged. At this point I need one thing. Someone please tell me why I should vote for Barack Obama. If you use the word change in your reason I will hang you by your toenails. Guess what? 99% of presidential candidates are running for office because they want change.
Click the title of this post to go to the comments page and tell me why I need to vote for Obama.

That’s definitely a point worth making, but I’ve reached a point of apathy about the whole thing a month ago, after having worked with a local pro-Hillary group. It’s a complete crap shoot if the best candidate will get the most votes, and having the most votes doesn’t seem to matter thanks to electoral colleges and corrupt or incompetent election polling. The winning and non-winning candidates alike will have the majority of their campaigns supported by lobbyists, corporations, and special interest groups. The most qualified leader, should (s)he manage to get elected, will have worked miracles if Iraq, healthcare, or civil rights makes any sort of movement, and the general populous will continue to be disgusted with the process and the people who exploit it for personal gain.
All in support of a bloody revolution instead, say “Aye!”
Good point. I think I got election burnout about 5 months ago. For the record, I voted for Hillary in her first NY Senatorial election and on April 22 in PA. I will proudly support any decision that she makes.
P.S. The DNC scheduled the convention way too late in the year.
Sorry, one more comment. PEOPLE, you need to know that your vote DOES NOT COUNT. Democracy inaction.
I think that if the Hill-dawg leaves the race she should continue to be a Senator. At this point she’s most effective there… esp. with Ted Kennedy down and out. We need the most fierce fighters in there right now to fix up Bush’s f-ups.
You should vote for Obama because we NEED a Democrat in the White House. I’m as gay as the next guy and gay issues are important to me but they are NOT the only issues that need addressing. To focus on a candidate’s views on a sole issue–one that’s important, I’m not denying that–is to treat the presidential race with the same tunnel vision that the morons who voted Bush into office in 2004 used. “Terror=scary. Must have Bush.”
I’m not using the word ‘change’ (which, BTW, came out of Hillary’s mouth more than once as well). Across the board, McCain’s views are terrifying. Have you seen these abhorrent TV ads of his? He’s all, “I hate war and I want to keep the country safe.” Note that nowhere does he say, ‘And I have a comprehensive plan to get us the fuck out of Iraq.’ He’s going to keep us in there as long as blood pumps through his Republican veins. Hating war and wanting to end hostilities in Iraq are not synonymous. He’s betting on the American public being stupid enough to INFER that they are. It’s the oldest marketing trick in the book.
Whatever Obama’s stance on gay marriage, we’ll be afforded tons more respect and have the opportunity for more progress under a Democratic administration versus what has been happening under a Republican regime.
I encourage you to review Obama’s stance on issues other than ones related to gay issues. Hillary is now behind him. She’s an honorable woman who would not back Obama if she thought he’d make a horrible president. She could be vocal about her support or she could choose silence. She chose to be vocal.
Support Obama because the alternative is continued and calculated oppression, no end to the war in Iraq, relentless advocacy for the rich elite, and an economy mere months away from complete and total collapse.
Andy,
There is no way in hell that I’d vote for McCain and I tell people NOT to do so. He’s scary, running for Bush’s 3rd term, and does not want to end the war. Yeah, I don’t like Obama but I am tired of settling for lousy Democratic Presidential candidates. I liked Gore and have hated Kerry for 20 years and voted for both. Yes, I will probably vote for Obama even though I think he’d make a shitty president. As far as I’m concerned, I will be voting for the lesser of two evils… AGAIN! I financially supported Hillary Clinton and will not put my money on Obama. Hillary is the best almost-candidate we’ve had since Bill. I believed in her enough to support her financially. I don’t care that she’s supporting him… it’s politics… as usual. BTW… Obama is a politician like everyone else. If he didn’t play the games of K Street he would not get elected.
Thanks for the comment,
Jason
