Not Ready Yet

With today’s decision by the Democratic National Committee’s Rules Committee’s decision on Michigan’s and Florida’s votes I am as some could say, quite dismayed.  Howard Ickes’ comments sum up my opinion on the topic.  The votes of those primary voters in Michigan were not counted toward what and whom they voted for.  It was a disgusting act of democracy that should not have been.  The votes of some 600,000 voters were changed to make it fair that Barack Obama gained some votes in the state.  Now, I’m not kidding myself in thinking that Hillary Clinton will come out that much more ahead.

The political pundits ended the election a long time ago.  What kind of democratic process do we have?  The answer is that we do not have much of one at all.  The mandate: reform the primary election process.  Caucuses are a thing of the past and there primary election cycle must be much shorter, if not one day.  With the availability if the Internet and TV, a one day primary should be absolutely possible.

While not statistically very much different in their delegate counts, it looks like Obama is going to get the nomination.  I cannot and will not stand behind him at this point.  I will also not stand by John McCain now.  I will perform some due diligence and decide whether to vote for either.  It is very well possible that I will vote for neither.  I am tired of settling for a vote for President.  I had all faith in Hillary.  Damn.

Being a citizen from Michigan I can say that I am not only dissapointed, but betrayed. I guess that goes without saying, in today’s politics. However what the DNC has done is simply childish. To “punish” states for a decision that wasn’t even approved by any member of the public. Millions of people didn’t decide to take time out of their day and go to vote for something that was pointless. They were hopeful that their voice would be heard, and now they’ve been betrayed.

Michigan’s economy has been hit the hardest. With the American auto industry still in a nosedive for almost a decade, people are losing everything. In many places in detroit it is cheaper to buy a house than a new car. If you can afford it, that is. Many are simply leaving the state because they can’t survive the recession.

It seems more likely that Obama will get the nomination. But with the latest development regarding Rev. Michael Pfleger I doubt that the majority of Clinton’s supporters will switch over to him. Being a Clinton supporter, I’ll find it difficult to vote for Obama, even though he may be a better choice than McCain. I still have faith in Hillary. She still has full energy and determination. She could still have one last card up her sleeve, but who knows? We’ll just have to wait till the last primaries are done.

That was very eloquent. Thank you for the comment. I agree that Pfleger is another mark on the guy’s record, but for some reason nothing sticks. I really wish we had a good Independent candidate. In fact, I’d switch to Independent except for the fact that that would not allow me to vote in Pennsylvania primary elections.

This whole Michigan/Florida ordeal is a shame. The media’s portrayal of the END of the Clinton campaign is nearly as bad. Both candidates have been STATISTICALLY close for a LONG while yet CNN and partners have wanted to call this Obama-land. A Right-winged [sic] conspiracy? Who knows. It all disgusts me. “Oh! Canada….”
