Amazon of a Headache

April 18th, 2008 by jason

Having a night off of work, I decided to watch a movie.  So, technology being what it is, I decided to download , LEGALLY, a movie that everyone has been quoting at work, Idiocracy (no spoilers, please).  Being an Apple zealot I first tried a search in iTunes, which returned no results.  No surprise.

Being a TiVo Series 2 owner with an 802.11g USB adapter, I thought, why not try Amazon.com’s Unbox service?  I go online and figure out how to link my TiVo and Amazon.com account.  Yippee!  I’m ready to go.  I search for the movie and get two results, download and buy.  Yippee!  I click on the link to the download product and get, “This item is currently not available for download.”  WHAT?  What the hell does this mean?  I Google it up… no one knows.  In fact, many movies “available” via Amazon’s Unbox service are “not available.”  Why would you show me something that isn’t available in the search results that were confined to Unbox downloads?  I dunno.  The service is a great idea, but piss-poor planning and information make it a piece of trash.  If you can’t give it to me, don’t show it to me.  Even Apple understands that.
