Organ Donation is NOT Gay

January 8th, 2008 by jason

Well, according to this CBC story, gay men in Canada are no longer allowed to donate their organs if they’ve had sex with another man (MSM) in the last 5 years.  Yippee!  A good point in the newscast is made that sexual promiscuity, not sexual orientation should be considered in whether or not one can donate their organs.

I finally found that the U.S. has the exact same policy (section IV.E.1).  I was looking for this about a week ago but seemingly didn’t have the power of Google on my side.  Yup, I can’t donate my organs either.  Damn.

That ban has always bugged me about blood donation, but bugs me even more about organ donation. I mean, why?

Maybe they’re worried that homosexuality is transferable through blood or organs!

Frank, and you think they’d run better tests on organ and tissue donors (well, the almost dead ones). It all sucks.
