An Old-fashioned Christmas

December 17th, 2007 by jason

What in the hell happened to Christmas? I remember when I liked Christmas. Every year it seems to get more depressing and anxiety filled. The traditions in my family have changed over my past 26 Christmas’s which seem to have been brought on by marriages, divorces, deaths, and the like. Let us not forget that is gets a little hard to keep track of who is not talking to who. That’s the Cable side of things. My mom’s side of the family is lacking in traditions. We all just come and go from grandma’s house, eat, drink, and pretend to be merry. Of course there are the occasional fights, but none as classic as the traditional Cable Family Christmas Fight.

Is the country going the way of the Cable Christmas? We used to be happy and gay [sic]. Present opening was a sight to behold. No one knew what they were getting and we were all happy to get whatever it was. Now, I dread to see what horrible things are given. I hate hearing about how I should do this or that. I especially don’t like people looking at me and wondering why I turned out gay. OOPS. Sorry folks, I can’t help that.

This year’s scandal will be my cousin bringing home her black boyfriend after getting divorced this year. She’s 29; I’m 27. I’ll be questioned as to why I don’t have a “friend.” You know what? It’s not anyone’s business. They cannot begin to understand what I’ve been going through the last few years.  Let’s not forget that everyone is afraid of me being outed to grandma.

To be continued tomorrow…
