How to Change Congress

December 10th, 2007 by jason

Are you sick of a “do nothing” Congress? Are you tired of not getting your way? Do you wish our elected officials in the US Senate and House of Representatives would listen to us?  Are you sick of the bureaucracy in what it takes to pass a bill?   Your choices:

  1. Vote
  2. Vote out incumbents
  3. Run for office

In November of 2006, the most important mid-term elections in decades had a voter turnout of a little over 40 percent.  That’s pathetic.  There is no reason that every eligible voter shouldn’t exercise their right to vote.  If you don’t vote, you don’t have the right to bitch about who got elected.

We all forget that we are able to run also.  Do you think I’d make a good Representative?  (umm.  don’t answer that).  To run for the House of Representatives you must be at least 25 years of age, have lived in the United States for the last 7 years and reside in the State for which you are running.  Representatives are elected to a 2 year term.  Senators must be at least 30 years of age, have lived in the U.S. for the last 9 years, and be a resident of the State they represent.  Each Senator is elected to a 6 year term, with 1/3 of the Senators up for election every 2 years.  It’s all in the Constitution.  Read it!

Really, if we want to fix Congress and the shitty state it’s in, we have to vote for new, younger blood that’s less corrupt and will not come under the pressure of the stalwarts and lobbyists.  It truly is that easy.  Well, incumbents do have a >95% chance of getting reelected.  This must change.  It is halting our progress forward as a nation and must STOP.  Maybe I should run!?!?!

Will you vote on November 4, 2008?

  • Yes! (100%, 3 Votes)
  • No! (0%, 0 Votes)
  • Not applicable. (0%, 0 Votes)

Total Voters: 3
