I wrote this for PodCamp, but it applies to any presentation you might give:
Jason’s 8 Tips for a GREAT Session:
- Be energetic. Think and KNOW that the new media are the way of the future. Open people’s minds about why they are really here.
- Don’t stand in one place. Walk around and LOOK around at your attendees. You’re not a young teenager who gets random erections, so ditch the podium. It’s impersonal.
- To help with nervous habits, hold an object like a pen in your hand.
- Ask for questions either during your session or towards the end… whatever you are most comfortable with.
- Speak clearly and slowly. Annunciate those energetic words! Define anything terms that may be foreign.
- Be calm. Do what you have to in order to relax prior to your session (meditation, prayer, music, Xanax, weed, Jack Daniels, Dogfish Head, whatever).
- Make sure your electronic presentation medium is ready to go for when your session starts.
- Enjoy yourself. Chances are that if you enjoy giving your lecture, the kiddies will enjoy it too.
